about

This is a folk song is based on the first chapter of the book of Haggai in the Bible.

lyrics

When I was a boy, hardly 18

My mother told me of a dream

A dream that she had, a dream where she saw

Houses and land, our own that we’d call

If freedom’s a train, it’s long and strong

Can push through the rain, can stride through the storm

But then when it stops, if you don’t move on,

right back to slavery it can go

Consider your ways, consider your ways

Please think on the castle you’ve made

It’s time to go, time to return

To the old land, of which I had learned

The elders they say, it was prophesied

But not yet fulfilled, it isn’t quite time

Thus says the Lord through Haggai these words,

"These people say the time ain’t occurred

The time to rebuild the time to restore

The house of our God, the home of our Lord."

Consider your ways, consider your ways

Please think on the castle you’ve made

You’ve invested much but brought low returns

There’s never enough food, you hunger

You thirst though you drink

Your cold in your robes

Money it flows through holes in your clothes

You looked for much but it came to nought

When you brought it home I blew it away

"But why though?" you say

Well look at what you’re doing

You’re in your house safe

While mine is in ruins

Consider your ways, consider your ways

Please think on the castle you’ve made
